Meet Our Nursing Team
Jennifer Heidgerd, Pet Nurse
Jen graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BS in Animal Science with equine option in 1987. She enjoys birdwatching, horse racing, photography, and watching “Chopped”. She has two orange kitties, Fred and George, and one guinea pig named Bob. Jen started working at sheabel in 1997. When Jen first started, there was a Sheabel “initiation”. Dr. Gentry and Tony Littral, a dog trainer associated with Sheabel, needed help taming a mongoose. The mongoose was located in a “have-a-heart” trap, and the staff members would put on as much protective gear as possible. All of a sudden the trap would open and the mongoose would pop out and scare everyone. Of course, it was a fake mongoose!
“JB” Jennifer Borders, Pet Nurse
JB received a Bachelors Degree in special education from Spalding University and a Masters in Audiology from the University of Louisville. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, scrapbooking, knitting, and running. She has a 5-year-old Pomeranian and Papillion mix that she adopted from a couple at Sheabel, named Luckydog. JB has been working at Sheabel since October 2005.
“When I first started working here, everyone told me that our clients brought us lots of goodies. One day, I went into the old call center and saw a nice box; I opened it and there were a pet’s ashes inside—not candy. Needless to say, I won’t forget that and I don’t open boxes anymore!”

Amanda went to Georgetown College and had a double major in History and European Studies with a minor in French. She graduated in 2006 and is currently studying Veterinary Technology at Purdue University. In her free time, she loves spending time with her family, making jewelry, and traveling. Kelly started at Sheabel in March 2012, and she loves her coworkers because they make her feel right at home.
